Hat boxes

Not sure if we have a thread on this and will guess we probably do.
I am replacing my cheapo hat boxes with those purchased from Arnold Hatters in NYC.
The boxes are sturdy enough to stack and have an insert to keep your fedora raised.
For five dollars a piece these are a sound investment for fedoras.

At $5 the price is right but would the seller ship them and how much would that add? I've been looking for some hat boxes, but the only reasonably priced ones I've found were from wholesalers and sold in lots of 20 or 25 boxes. Then the shipping is a killer. Any more info would surely be appreciated.

Those are the boxes I've had my Panamas shipped in as well as a couple of refurbs from Art. They're a solid generic box, but you really need to have a store close by to get them.

I want to know where to get the clear plastic inserts that Art uses in his boxes to rest the hats in (the stuff kind of like Saran Wrap).

I checked Arnold's website and see they do not offer hatboxes for sale online.

I did run across these a few weeks ago, but these prices are quite a bit much:

This box looks like the ones I have. No doubt they come from the same manufacturer. 15 bucks plus shipping starts to add up...

The best I can recommend right now is for anyone to inquire with their local hatshop about boxes.

If any of you ever pass through Dallas, the Resistol/Hatco factory outlet store has hatboxes for sale at a reasonable price. I think it is $4 but it has been probably 3 years since I last purchased one.
If you care to go there you can mapquest or googlemaps 1 resistol drive, garland texas and get the map and directions. They do have a few fedoras in the store but it is mostly an inventory of western hats.

We now have two locations listed where members can purchase hat boxes. Perhaps our best bet would be to list the brick and mortar stores that sell them.
If anyone else has purchased boxes in their towns, please list the location.

Ditto. I'm just using cut-down plastic grocery bags. I thought that they were once available through this place but, if they were, they're not any more.

We sell the white boxes for 4.00 each all day long. Anyone who is in the NYC area can come on by . We als ohave a colored box in black or blue for the same price.

Do you have any idea what shipping might cost for three or four of them?

I imagine shipping will be a lot.
Are there any hat shops in your area?

I'm thinking it would be too. There are no hat stores within fifty miles of me that I know of. I'll try to google up some if I can. I'm pretty much half way between St. Louis and Chicago, and I know there are some in both of those towns.

I have exactly one hat shop within 150 miles (as far as I can find), and the only boxes he has are the ones with hats in them. :(

Simple fact is, it is very far from easy to "drop by your local hat shop" for anything these days. They usually aren't there.

I called Optimo today, just for kicks, and got the answer I expected. They will sell the boxes they ship custom hats in for $30 plus about $15 per box to UPS them. They're probably really nice boxes though. lol

It's because UPS and others used to ship almost exclusively by weight, within certain size parameters. Now they go by side, and sent flat, things like hatboxes are large. 3-4 folded to shape and placed in a larger box would probably be cheaper overall, but with the price of fuel and so forth, the cost of shipping anything's really gone up over the last few years.

They use the same black boxes that Art uses for his customs.

The HATCO Outlet in Garland, TX gives the buyer a hatbox with each hat purchased. They may still sell boxes but I've never had occasion to buy one. They have more western hats than fedoras but, as noted in other threads, they also have a wide selection of fedoras (well into the 100+ range on my visit in August).
