Gents, I found a vintage clothing store here in Toronto that has a bunch of old hat boxes (Dobbs, Resistol, Stetson, Biltmore, etc.) selling for $10 CDN a piece. For my fellow Lounge members I'm willing to go to the trouble of shipping them for you if anyone is interested. Let me know.

Plenty, but I'm not going to go there with pencil and paper and write down every make, size, specs, and colours of the hats they carry. It's a hodge podge of stuff, including some very strange ones like wide brim pork pies. Ugly hat!

Stetson and Dobbs boxes, please. I need an extra 3 or four. Only in excellent condition, and must have the inserts to hold the hats. It's so annoying when the boxes come sans insert! If you could talk the shopkeep into giving you some extra inserts i'd pay for those too.

They'll be a bit of a bugger to send though, but i'll offset the extra cost of large boxes to hold the hat boxes.

Which shop is it, by the way? I had a lot of luck buying vintage about 4 years ago in Toronto in a shop which i can't remember the name of, and can't remember the street it was on, but one of the main streets … out past chinatown, perhaps.

Same- that's a great area out there. There was one shop in particular, You had to walk up a short flight of stairs once inside to get to the vintage stuff, there might have been a motorcycle inside as well, that had some really nice hats.

Baron Kurtz, your memory serves you right. A bit west of Chinatown.

Alexandra, it's called Cabaret < http://www.cabaretvintage.com/ >, you should definitely pay it a visit since most of their items are for women, but I warn you that it is pricey. Also, there is a custom hat store for women only somewhere further east on Queen St., great stuff, very 1920ish.

Gentlemen, I was just at the post and inquired about shipping costs. Apparently the Canada Post adds shipping charges not only according to weight but also to dimensions. An empty hat box would cost an additional $10 to $15, I predict based on the figures the postal worker gave me.

Please let me know if you're still interested.

Yes, i feared this was the case. Most postal systems have now moved over to this way of doing things. Royal Mail won't ship anything overseas that weighs more than 2 kg. Hellish for sending vintage suits, i can tell you. They insist they go via Parcel Force, which costs a least twice the amount.

So, i'm out, sadly.
