Hat bands: To cover or remove?

I now have my first real fur felt hat on the way. It's not a vintage hat, so I’m not worried about depreciating the value. However, what’s the general rule? I want to add a splash of color to my new hat.

Should I try and cover the stock hat band as best as possible or is it ok to remove it?

I would think switching ribbons is up to you. I'm a "tweaker" by nature and if I think modifying will suit me, I'll do it, but if the hat is vintage, like the only one I own, the OR in my avatar, I wouldn't, but like you said your purchase isn't, and depending on your confidence and ability, a ribbon change would be interesting. The bow is the most challenging, yet fun, part for me.
