Be asked to loan a few hats for groomsmen for a wedding? For other events?

It is (and was) western hats and they are mostly beaver or 100% beaver but not some one-off super special vintage lids.

I was hesitant but in both cases they were great friends and knew the importance of taking good care of them.

I had two different friends who had western weddings and some groomsmen had no hats and others had straw or not the correct color.
In both cases all went well but the silver belly wedding did make me much more nervous.

Surprisingly my size (7 1/8-7 1/4) accommodated all in need.

Not a wedding. The kids were putting on a production of Guys and Dolls so I lent them my older woolies ans some less desirable furs, maybe 6 in all. They looked a heck of a lot better than the plastic, or wool novelty lids they were going to use. Plus, we were able to save a few dollars for other things.

My brother-in-law had a father-daughter dinner with my niece that was western themed.
He & I have the same size noggins. I lent him one of my nice ones for the occasion. I've given him fedoras a couple of times so he'd have a decent hat in the winter.

I have loaned out a few hats to my sons classmates who were putting on a grade 8 school play. They were some old Stetons and Dobbs I had picked up off ebay cheap so I was not very concerned. They were returned in fine shape. My Campdrafts and Fed IVs or other vintage models however would not have been placed in their care.

My dad loaned me his hats when I was in jr. high/high school for class projects, costumes, or whatever. I think he had a Stetson licensed Indiana Jones model and his dad's sage Stetson 3X mode edge with a beautiful rust ribbon. On occasion I wore his Greek fisherman's cap to school and several of his coats he no longer wore.
So far, my hats have only been loaned to my kids on "hat day" at school!

Years ago I was a TV commercial spokesman for a steakhouse over a five-state region ... just a part time gig ... and I had a woman call me at the office one day and say her son was supposed to have put together a history report for that week and wouldn't I be willing to let him borrow the whole outfit I wore on screen ... chaps, leather vest... bib front shirt and a Tom Horn style Stetson, etc.

I'd never even met this woman.

When I said NO, she argued with me ... What could happen, she asked?

Let's not find out! I retorted.

Otherwise ... I have loaned out some lessor hats and usually got them back OK, but not always.
