Happy Birthday Kim Novak

About 15 years ago I did a Cowboy Collectible show in Carmel Valley, CA selling old Cowboy Gear. I sold a couple of small hair-on cowhides to a nice lady who wrote a check for them. I didn't even look at the check until I was in line at the bank to make a deposit, and then realized I had sold the hides to Kim Novak. I waited and made a copy of the check before cashing it. It had her name, address and phone number on it, which surprised me. She was wearing a Bolero hat and still looked pretty good. I wish I would have at least looked at her check and said hello, as a fan. She was going to have a vest made from the hides, wonder if she ever did.

She was a favorite of mine when I was in high school, loved her in Bell, Book & Candle, also Vertigo. I have never seen Picnic, someday will have to rent it.

I believe I read that she is now involved in some kind of animal activism now, is that correct?

I really enjoy watching Bell, Book, and Candle!
Is Kim also involved in animal rights or is that Tippi Hedren?

I browsed a book at a book store a few years back,...something like, "Actors as Artists",...or something to that effect. Anyway, it had the artwork of celebrities that was mostly hobbyist type stuff, Sunday painter stuff. However, Kim Novak's portrait of Mrs. James Stewart was phenomenal! She is a very talented artist.

I know Tippi Hedron is, as well as Doris Day and Bridget Bardot. I knew Kim Novak was an artist, but thought I had read she did animal rights work, too.

Will have to research and see what I find.

Well, I went surfing and all I could find is that she raises horses and llamas. She is also married to a vet.

That must be where I got the idea she was into animal rights stuff.

I don't find anything on animal rights, but I did find that in 2000 her house in Oregon burned down and they lost all of her memoribilia - including scripts and other things from her acting career. So had she made the vests...I would assume they went up in smoke as well.

Kim Novak

Was there any other actress in the 60s who had the smouldering beauty of Kim N as seen in that wonderful photo. Jean Seberg perhaps - until the CIA got to her.

Where could you cut that clip out to have prominently placed on one's desk?

She was also one of those actresses who had their moment and just disappeared into the ether.

Thanks

C

I read that at least they were able to save the horses and llamas from the fire that destroyed her home and property.

If she has been married to a veterinarian for many years, I would imagine she has some concern for animals, but I could find nothing indicating she is an activist.

Beauty and talent, a powerful combination.

I just watched The Man With the Golden Arm on DVD a few nights ago. Kim Novak was both seductive and innocent at the same time.
