As a stylist I just can't picture doing a bleach and color on myself, much less someone who is not a stylist and may be very slow at application.

I cannot imagine bleaching black hair ( or any colour, for that matter !) without going to a salon .
It's a wonder it all didn't break off when she was combing the bleach through.

I've bleached my hair from black to light enough to go red without going to a salon and with minimal damage. I've always been good at beauty related stuff.

I just bleached out segments at a time over a few months and replaced the section with red, so I had black hair with red streaks. I ripped strips of foil and used a brush and bleach from Sally's..I used heat from a plastic hair cap and my hair dryer to accelerate the process. I'm naturally a blonde and went through a few years of black hair. I'm back to red now...and dyeing it as I type, oddly enough.
