When I went to my haberdasher's today (June 1) I had to learn that they close down by June 15. They dug out many things long forgotten - thousands of vintage buttons (ivory nut, vulkanfiber etc.), partly in big cardboard boxes, vintage yarn at least 70 years old in packets to 12 spools, loose spools of the same yarn, buttonhole silk yarn, etc. etc.

Should anyone be interested, this is the occasion to get original material for repairs. They are selling off at present (- 30% on everything). I didn't have a camera with me, otherwise I would have taken pictures (can try to do so tomorrow if they consent and if somebody cares for pictures). Anyone interested please PM me, I can give you their telephone number (I think the younger of the shop owners has email, could ask him). I don't know if they are willing to ship outside of the EU - they are located in Austria.

Got myself some cloth covered buttons for my frock coats and cutaways should I ever lose one plus some yarn.

see for yourself:

Obituary

Well, here then is my photographic obituary of Wiefler's. I went there today and the younger owner let me take the pictures below. He also gave me his private email adress (the shop doesn't have one, let alone a homepage), should anybody wish to get in contact with them, PM me and I'll pass you the adress on.

Here is a link to their entry in an adress book: http://www.herold.at/gelbe-seiten/salzburg/HZlMR/wiefler-modenhaus-kg/

All the prices are in Euro!

Be quick - all will be gone by mid June.

Went there again last Saturday - they prolonged business to the end of June - by then its all over for sure. Got the rest of the cloth covered buttons (the whole box, might be more than 100 in it). Still thousands of buttons and vintage thread left. Dear Broccoli, me too, I hope they won't dump what is left - would be a shame and a great loss of authentic material. So far nobody contacted them from the forum. Well I guess, that's life.

Modenhaus Wiefler is history.

On my last visit there on the very last day I rememered that I had bought some of these some 20 yrs ago (the more solid version in picture 3):

Any idea?

Sock suspenders!

Unfortunately they didn't have moustache-trainers any longer, I got a specimen of these at the same occasion (for a theater piece) when I bought the sock-suspenders in the 1990ies.
