as much as i love and appreiciate the Ghurkas I have to ask why this story was flagged
after 15 years service ,a ghurka gets paid a pension that would be ( in the Uk ) an equivalent of LOTS , more than most equivalent service in the army in the Uk would bring, the quote ' as much as a GP or Architect in Nepal'
so in an equivalent they would receive 30k in nepal
but less in the UK , they'd only receive the same as UK armed forces pension but only after 15 years, possibly as young as 33 ?
so we have a 33 year old ghurka retired, getting a full armed forces pension in the UK , plus retirement rights to live here , this is what they want, and as they have risked their lives, it's worth it , but our Govt won't
so WHY THE HELL don't our OWN armed forces get waht we're already giving
Over the course of a retirement," the spokesman added, "Gurkha soldiers signed up to the pre-1997 pension scheme will receive at least the same amount of pension as their British counterparts. Gurkha pensions can be paid from the age of 33, up to 27 years before British pensions begin. That means a Gurkha rifleman will already have received approximately £60,000 by the time he is 60.”
it's sad that the MOD use this as an argument to not pay the ghurkas , as they don't actually pay this mush to our own
