Grey Adam Premier for trade

I picked this up off eBay and the seller had the size all wrong, it measures 21 7/8" or a size 7, not the 7 1/4 as implied.

it has the original box and the felt is stiff but in really near mint condition, only one minor spot on the front that might be a scrape or really light mothing. The biggest thing wrong with the hat is the liner is filthy and it got through a little to the felt, I don't know what the stain was originally, but now it's a yellowish power that if you rub hard, it comes off on your finger. I haven't done anything with it yet, but I was going to try and wash it in Woolite this weekend. The whole hat could use a good brushing or naphtha bath, but I haven't done any of that yet, this is how I received it.

it's a sharp little hat with a 2" bound brim in grey and a 1" black ribbon with a "stacked" bow. the leather sweat is in good shape. it's thicker leather, but very flexible and is still fully attached all the way around.

instead of shipping the hat back and loosing the shipping charges, I thought I might throw it up here and see if someone wanted to trade. and if you "have to have" the hat, but don't have a trade, make me an offer, I'm always wanting to place another order from HatsDirect :eusa_doh:

my ideal trade would be:
- 7 1/4 (or 58)
-grey
-sweatband in good shape
-little to no taper

if you want more info or more pics, let me know...

Hi Rob--

I, like you, wish it was an inch bigger. Cool hat, love the bow/bound brim combo. I couldn't find a trade for the Dobbs I bought that was likewise too small. But another Lounger bought it. Thanks for offering it up to the community! Hope you are well.

Cheers,
GC

update...

I started cleaning the hat tonight.

I dusted off the box with a damp cloth and it's in pretty good shape (8/10)

I took the liner out and hand washed it, I'm pretty impressed with the results. still stained, but the "dust" came out and the yellow lightened tremendously. once it's dry, I'll update the photos.

I lexol'd the band and it cleaned up very nicely and I flipped up the sweat and there are no manufacture tags, but I confirmed it's fully attached all the way around and is thicker leather than my akubra sweats, but it's very supple.

I also gave the hat a good brushing and found no real defects in the felt.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

since no one has offered a trade, I'll offer it up for sale for $40 shipped in the continental US. I'm not making any money off of the sale, I just don't want to loose any money.

Nice job Rob.
I was eyeing it up, but I'm really a 7 1/8.

I was thinking how much I like the look of it, wondering..hmmm, maybe I can stretch it a little...
Then I realized, I'm wearing a Richman Brothers hat almost exactly like it ('cept for that box bow)!

IMO and experience, a reputable seller will refund your shipping charges for both destinations. Have you tried asking him/her to?

I agree. In my experience, unless it's stated in the auction that the seller will not cover return shipping, they typically do. A good seller will usually do whatever is required (within reason) to make the customer happy.

I suspect that RobFedoraField would like the seller to pay for the return shipping fee and the original shipping fee (from the seller to him). I think the seller would do so. Zetwal is right: "A good seller will usually do whatever is required (within reason) to make the customer happy."

seller response

I asked that very same question as soon as I opened the box and her response was "1. I measured the size to the best of my ability 2. vintage items should always be cleaned before wearing 3. I do not refund return shipping for any reason."

I also looked into the paypal protection program and it doesn't cover return shipping either.

oh well, maybe someone will be interested in it, or my son will grow into it... (he's only 5, so it might be a while)

Thanks everyone...

I agree....

It is a great looking hat. I think the problem is that, you're wanting to make a swap for a hat that is 2-3 sizes larger.

Point being, I would make a swap with you in a heartbeat, folks here know i love to swap lids, problem is, like I said.....I don't own any lids that are your size. [huh]
