A friend of mine owns a vintage clothing store, she picked this up some time ago and just gave it to me as a gift. It's fairly heavy for being so small. No magnet sticks to it so it could be brass under the Gold leaf.

Gold isn't magnetic either, so that test doesn't rule it out. However, I doubt it's real gold. Nothing really to base that on, but I wouldn't expect it.
