Going to Miami

Hello, Ladies!

I'm sorry I'm a rear guest here. I'm going to Miami on 2 weeks. I've been saving money for ages to go there. So... Maybe you could give me some advices on:

1. where to buy best vintage clothes in Miami
2. where I can find any retro parties, clubs, lounges, restaurants, etc.
3. and maybe someone will agree to give me and my husband a tour... because we have no friends or relatives there.

Stay in South Beach, that is where all the Art Deco hotels are and there are sooooo many. I was there in 2006 and did some great walks and photo shoots of all the buildings. I didn't do any vintage shopping there as I only stayed at SB.

C. Madeleine's gets a lot of press as the best vintage shop in the area. But there are others.

One of the places you may want to visit is South Beach. The architecture is Art Deco and has a nice festive atmosphere.

When I am in Florida I like to go to Coconut Grove as I enjoy the shopping and very pleasant with small shops.

South Beach - as everyone else is saying - is really the best place for typical art deco experiences as far as architecture is concerned. But if you have the chance, the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables (suburb of Miami) and The Breakers Resort in West Palm Beach (about an hour north) are phenomenal locales as well. (The Hialeah Race Track is also a prime example of art deco architecture, but I don't think it's open to the public anymore; now it's under renovation and used mostly for private events). Keep in mind that SoBe is not a retro-clothing style type of place; many young persons made up in the latest fads and scantily clad Europeans (not necessarily a bad thing) dominate the landscape. You will be hard-pressed to see any Frank Sinatra styles walking around ala "A Hole in the Head".

We are thinking pretty much the same , of course. However, I would like to add The Breakers is very expensive, but, IMO well worth the cost for a drink and some time on the exquisite grounds. The walls have tapestries that are breathtaking.

Not Art Deco but Vizcaya is one of America's great homes. And there's the Venetian Pool at Coral Gables.

A.C. Lyles, it's a nice shop and so large! Byr what about the prices? I guess the prices are quite high. aren't they? I'm not planning to spent more than $80 on a dress... I just don't have that kind of money.

Connery, I heard about that district. I googled it. It's not far from our hotel. So we'll be spending a lot of time there, I guess

Where can I buy used books for a few dollars? I have nothing to read right now so I'm going to buy lots of books!

And if somebody knows any retro/vintagy events taking place from December, 21 to January, 4 please let me know! I would be really greatful.
