Getting rid of letters...

Before doing anything wrong I'd like to ask if anyone knows how I could "erase" a name that is printed in gold (just the same was as the hat brand) on the leather sweatband of one of my hats.
Thanks.

If you want to remove it quickly I really can't help.

Stamped gold lettering always wears out in my hats with sweating, but that takes more time than you have.

Terribly sorry, hope you get an answer.

I have been told that nail polish remover on a Q-tip will remove gold lettering from a leather sweatband.
Never tried it myself, so proceed at your own risk.

Talk to who is going to put the new name in. Alcohol removes leather sealant, used to do this before dying holsters, belts & scabbards. I'd try that or lighter fluids for Zippo type lighters. Just make sure to add back the oils the leather needs. Gotta give grandpas what they want....I sure miss mine.

Thanks, I tried the zippo fluid and it worked! the letters weren't, of course, newly stamped so I guess that made the job easier. Tried the nail polish to in a tiny spot and didn't do a thing.
Thanks:eusa_clap all for the advise!

BTW, yes my friend got to give grandpas what they want. This one isn't technically my grandfather (he's my wife's) but since I don't have one of my own I have appropiated him. Nothing like the love of a grandparent. I lie: nothing like the love of a mother.

You are fortunate, indeed. Gary White puts my name in the sweat-band, but he does it by punching small holes to form the letters. It is about as permanent as can be.

Yeah, I've see bands like that and, frankly, I don't really like them.
It doesn't bother me, just as gold stamping doesn't bother me when it wears off. So few people wear good hats these days that it is unlikely that the operator of the hat check room will mistake my fedora for anyone else's.
