getting my first Aero

Hi guys

it's been a while now that a wanted to buy an Aero jacket but being a college student the price seemed a little high, so after searching for a while for sale items or used jackets on ebay, i found an ebay store - Aero Leather USA
and by chance they had a 10% discount sale, so i thought although the price is still a bit high, this is a good opportunity and ordered the HG-5 jacket :

now i need to decide which lining to go with and i hoped to get some advice here, i can choose between tartans, alpaca wool and cotton drill cloth,
how do they compare by durability and warmth?

by the way while searching on ebay i found a good deal on a longshoreman Aero jacket size 40 in mint condition and the price for now is 469$ and the auction ends in 2 days, if any one is interested.
i didn't go for this because its in black and i wanted brown

I think the cotton drill will be more durable than the Alpaca that is why it's used in the sleeves, Alpaca will be warmer than the drill not sure about the tartans as I don't own one with it in, seeing your location perhaps it might be impractical having a wool lining, don't know though as I've never been there.

I have alpaca lining. It is pretty warm and seems to be wearing okay. I cannot compare all linings as I have only had alpaca and tartan cotton but I think any of the choices you mention should last okay.

Between the Aeros I have, I have light cotton, satin/silk, rayon, B-10 shell gaberdine, cotton drill, and wool tartan. The olive gab lining in my 30s Halfbelt, same stuff as they use for the shells of their B10s, is probably the most durable. In terms of heat, the tartan wool is probably the warmest one, though that is in a Bootlegger which I find a warmer jacket anyhow due to the design (overlapped front, so it's "closed" more often than not in wear, even if the zip is unfastened). If you want to wear it in warmer weather, I would suggest a gab or rayon, wool for Spring/ Autumn / Winter. Also think about the hide option you will choose. My heavier hides (FQHH, Steer) are a bit much at this time of year, whereas the midweight horse and goat A2s are grand for cooler, overcast days even now - lighter hide and linings. I would suggest mating hide and lining best suited for when in the year you want to wear the jacket.

I just looked up the average temperatures in Tel Aviv: wow, Israel is quite warm year round! From what I have been able to gather on the forum, from most warmth to least is: alpaca, wool tartan, cotton drill/gabardine. I think the alpaca would be too warm for you. If you want a "winter" jacket - if I may call it that, since it doesn't seem to freeze there - you may want the wool tartan. Probably your best bet for your kind of weather would be the cotton drill or gabardine cloth.

However, if you live out in the Negev, you might get cold at night. I camped out there and slept with two sleeping bags.
