Getting a new panama; need some brim help

Hello,

I just got off the phone with Panama Bob (what a nice guy!). I am looking to buy a Cuenca panama quickly and he kindly emailed me a photo of two hats he has on hand.

They are slightly different quality but more importantly one has a uniform 2 3/4 inch brim and the other has a 2.5 front and 2 3/4 inch side brim width.

I have dimensional brim hats with the fronts and backs wider than the sides, but what is the impact - aesthetically and otherwise - of a shorter front/wider sides brim configuration?

Also, what is an avocado crown? Is this crown shape inherently more straight or tapered?

While it's pretty rare among fur felts, it's not uncommon to find straw hats with this "reverse dimensionality"--brims wider on the sides than the front and rear. (Why in straw I do not know, but someone here will probably will.)

Without trying it on your head, you really can't tell what it'll look like, but I don't think a mere 1/4-inch difference is particularly noticable, so I would not let that be the sole deciding factor.

Avocado crown? If I had such a hat, it would not last long, for I'd mash it up with some tomatillos and hot sauce, slather it on blue corn chips, and eat every bite!

Sorry, I cannot help on that crown shape. Guacamole has that kind of effect on me.

I would go for the uniform brim width. The idea of a "reversed dimensional brim" sounds as though it might look...odd...my .o2

No matter if you are dealing with circumference, crown height, or brim size, in my estimation, when it comes to hats, a quarter of a inch is very noticeable.

Bob's been turning out some crown variations lately that aren't mentioned on his website. I haven't heard of the Avacado yet. Only Bob would know.
