Took a gamble, but alas, it turned out too small (why do sellers never wait the size?)

Estimated 30s Hückel Foulaed Soleil. wonderfully soft medium hair length velour, dry creases easily. I love thr bow treatment.

I usually ask them to find the tag under the sweat to confirm the size. Most non-hat people don't know where those tags are.

That's a wonderful hat, Wayne. Too bad about the size. We've all been there. I do the same as Randy and Marcel do: I ask sellers to look underneath the sweat.

I just bought two Szaszi hats. This one is a grey fedora with a black band. As I live in Vienna I thought I contact the current Szaszi owner Shapira (with the expansive hats). In short: I visited him for nearly one hour, he was really very very nice and cleaned and steamed both hats (the second is a Homburg), he even showed me some of his ready-to-wear/buy hats. They start from 450 to about 800/1000 euros. As most of you are very longer and deeper into Austrian hats than me: If you ever visit Vienna ask for an appointment - his workplace is more than fallen out of time and incredible.
Both my hats are made about 1975. You can find some of them on Austrian classified - but hardly older ones before ww2 or even 50/60is.

Wayne, Super! Very sorry about the size. It's mélange felt with a Soleil like finish. I don't believe I have encounter this before. The other JHS mélange have "Rauh" finishes which are not Soleil like. I like seeing these Japan market JHS. The paper labels having full descriptions (and in English) should prove helpful. Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to look into this in detail.

Stefan, Great to see! I can't recall if I have come across a VEB Luckenwalder Hutfabrik "Elegant" in a sale / auction. I have a soft spot for these DDR era hats. :)

Nikolaus, Thank you for posting this later Szaszi Soft Felt. It's definitely well made and the felt and finish look great. That is fantastic that you were able to visit with the Szaszi owner Shapira. As we know Szaszi goes back at least a 100 years but I am not sure if I have encountered any WWII era of older examples. If I have they have been in small sizes. Please post photos of the Szaszi Homburg when you have time.
