Another super interesting hat Steve. Inky black, cool ribbon and nice finish.Hut-Seidl München "Garant" made by Mayser Ulm, 60cm probably mid 1950s. Very high quality felt that easily dry creases. Also I really like the ribbon width and hat form. Hut-Seidl München had a strong historical connection with Mayser Ulm.

Because it is a German made hat I'll post this one here as well. Negretti bowler. Negretti is a sheep-variety of the distant past, so a woolfelt. Steve (Mayserwegener) has one too (of course he does). Size 57 with the brim at 5cm and the crown at 12 cm. I comment now and again that I would buy a hat for the liner alone, but I rarely do. This is one of those cases though. It's colour purple makes me wonder if this might have been the pope's leisure hat. When it arrived there was so little life in it left that for a moment I thought it was a homburg. Steam brought it back, but it's not nearly as stiff as other bowlers I have. Interesting is the designation "Real Russia" on the sweatband. It refers to a tanning process which originates from Russia and uses birchbark for the tanning. There's a tiny hole in the front brim and some damage to the brim binding. Very interesting if only for historic reasons. Very old, but I'm not certain which decade exactly. No label inside the hat unfortunately.

Nice, it appears to have some substantial age. The sweat looks beautiful.Sadly no other labels inside. Unlike the previous one fits perfectly. The ribbon needs to be sewed to the crown.

Fantastic! I wasn't able to find anything on Gustav Reiner. I tend to think it was sourced but will probably remain a mystery.Sadly no other labels inside. Unlike the previous one fits perfectly. The ribbon needs to be sewed to the crown.

Thanks! I agree.Very nice. All around nice hat. I see your point of the ribbon width. It works to make the crown the stand out.

Steve, thanks. The finish on this one is more what you'd expect from a woolfelt hat. Certainly not as smooth as other bowlers I have. It's not really lightweight either at 138 grams.Stefan, Super find! I saw it in the "WHAYWT" thread and was going to ask you about it. My Negretti doesn't have a company mark. I do see some similarities (see link below). May I ask how much it weighs? Mine is very light in weight. Also the finish is more smooth than most Wool Stiff Felts.

Thanks you, 65!It certainly makes for great conversation. As you mentioned about the liner, it is beautiful.
Great looking old hat. I don't think the ribbon, more specifically the bow, needs to be sewed to the hat. I have a few of these old hats and it seems on some of them the bows were not sewed to the crown on purpose. That seems to be the case here too.Sadly no other labels inside. Unlike the previous one fits perfectly. The ribbon needs to be sewed to the crown.

Beautiful hat. These Garants are very well made and I doubt it would shrink much, if at all. Had to let mine go because it was too roomy for me, so I know how you feel.I received this today. I totally forgot about it. It was offered as size 55 but it ended up size 57 I've debating if I should leave it in the car a few days in the hope it will shrink to or close to my size. Then I would hate to ruin such a fine felt hat.
