George Gershwin was a fascinating man. As a matter in fact, I was studying him a couple of weeks ago while still in Spring Semester, my music appreciation course. This penthouse though, is actually very nice and artistic.

Here's a piece which touches on Gershwin's time at 33 Riverside Drive.

"Although he and Ira were living separately for the first time, they were not very far apart. Ira and Leonore had the penthouse next door, and the two apartments were connected by a passageway."

That's my favorite architectural style. Gershwin is one of my favorite composers. The style of that apartment is so New York City (that's where I'm from) that when you play Rhapsody, that's what you see. There's a nurse over at the nursing home where I volunteer to play music. All she ever requests is Gershwin's work. If I had to play nothing but Gershwin tunes, I wouldn't mind at all. Nobody writes like that anymore.

I believe this apartment also has a fabulous view of the Hudson River from a huge long terrace. I think I remember seeing it for sale several years ago for 5 million. I would guess it would (even in a down market) be worth three times that now.

Because of this thread I called an old friend that grew up in the building and she reminded me of some rough stuff that took place in the penthouse years ago. Actually I have no recollection....but it was easier to tell her that I did than to be teased about my failing memory. Kids, don't smoke.........
