Fully Fashioned Stocking Sizes

Can anyone explain this term with regard to stocking sizes for nylon, silk or cotton stockings?

Is the stocking size the same as one's shoe size?

Stocking size for nylons (I don't know about cotton stockings) is figured out by measuring the length of your foot in inches. So a foot that is 9 inches long would mean you're a size 9 in stockings.

Different lengths are also available sometimes, but I'm not sure how they run.
