Jackets I have ordered through Carrie have a ~ 3 day "try out" period. I know you felt bad here, but you really should have reached out to her right away to indicate you wanted to return for a remake. Being direct (but kind) is usually the best policy in business.

Yes, get a hold of her and see what she can do. She has always been fair & equitable to work with for me. I still really do think your jacket is amazing, but I get the fit may be off. And yes, that is a lot of $$$$ and You have every right to have it the way you aske for it to be.

A custom jacket, by definition, is probably not something that can be returned. If there is an egregious error or flaw that’s one thing. Not liking the fit, slight color variance, etc…no dice.

If however you went through the “fit jacket” process and this received piece is substantially different, then you have a case. Comparison photos of the fit jacket you received vs this jacket are important, as are the measurements.

While I sympathize with your plight and disappointment, I cannot agree that “making it right” falls on TB or Theo without some evidence the jacket you received is markedly different than the one you “tried on” and based expectation upon.
Edited for a plethora of word soup typos.

This whole issue really seems to me like it should have been posted in the outerwear forum rather than the classifieds. Just sayin...
Yes I agree. I recall another member here received an Aero from TB that was some 2-4” larger in the chest than the fit jacket. If memory serves that was corrected by TB and Aero. But unless this jacket is for actual sale, the discussion on the particulars of the process don’t belong here. That said, I’m curious about the result. There’s some missing information here. I’ll call Keith Morrison.

The fit jacket was actually absurdly huge. I only ever received a "Medium" from Thurston Brothers to try on, even though I made it clear that I was a "Small" from the get-go. That honestly never sat well with me. I would love to have tried on a fit jacket that was at least somewhat close in size.

got the same experience, I'm normally a 36 and received a 40 fit jacket lol needless to say the jacket didn't fit quite as I wanted it to be and eventually moved the jacket on

Yeah, fit jackets are a good idea in theory, but they really only make sense if you're providing your customer with one that is at least SOMEWHAT close to their body type. I honestly saw zero purpose in the medium that they'd sent me, especially when in the end we just based the final measurements off of a Schott that I own. That fit jacket amounted to nothing more than shipping money down the drain, in my opinion.

Agreed. If you needed a small and received a medium fit jacket…that is a complete waste and negates any benefit the process can provide. I’m surprised they sent that to you as it sounds like you’d need to tweak the size down from a small. Good luck with it either way, but given this info, I would pursue an avenue with Carrie first. As others have said, resale on a brand new custom is often cruel.

Yeah, contact Carrie. If the measurements are off from what you agreed on with them (I assume you gave her measurements of a well-fitting Schott jacket), they should make this right. If you sell this jacket, you are looking at a 400++ USD loss. Tiny size, short sleeves, assumingly very limited interest.

I honestly don't know what to make of the following situation. I recently purchased a custom Thedi jacket from Thurston Brothers, and went through the process of getting sized, choosing the details I wanted, and then waiting...and waiting...and waiting...

And on Saturday, I finally received the jacket.

Unfortunately, my worst fears about the investment were confirmed. I slid the jacket on and was immediately unsatisfied with the fit. It's simply too boxy around the chest and back for my tastes, and the jacket itself is about an inch too long. On top of that, the leather is darker than I expected, the buttons and thread are a different color, and the name tag affixed to the inside pocket shows my first name instead of my last (as requested). So yeah, is it a gorgeous jacket? Absolutely. Is it the dream jacket I've been searching my entire adult life for? No...sadly it's not. And yes, I realize that it sounds like I'm being picky, and if this was an off-the-shelf jacket that I'd spent several hundred dollars on, then I would agree with you 100%. But doing it custom is a significant investment ($1,599.00 all told), and so getting anything less than exactly what you had in mind is a big disappointment...especially after waiting seven months to actually receive the order. So yeah, I may be selling it, or else I may be hanging on to it for awhile in the hopes of warming up to it. I still haven't decided. What do you guys and gals think?

Measurements:

Chest - 20"
Shoulders - 17.25"
Waist - 18.25"
Sleeves - 23.25"
Back - 23"

Oh, and to be clear...Carrie at Thurston Brothers couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. I suppose these things just happen from time to time. You can't please everyone, right? Anyway, on to the pics....

Updated with fit pics. Carrie has talked me off the ledge, so I suppose it's just a matter of getting some preconceived notions out of my head and being content with the fact that I can afford (barely, but still) to own a beautiful jacket like this in the first place. Nothing in life is ever as we expect it to be, and a lot of the times that turns out to be for the best. So yeah, anyway...that's how I'm going to try to approach my Thedi. Drop by this thread in another six months and me and it will probably be inseparable. Lastly...Carrie Van Dyke really has been great throughout this whole process, both positive and professional, and I wouldn't hesitate to work with Thurston Brothers again. In fact, I plan to very soon.

Now, onto the pics: buttoned front/back and unbutton front/back, so tell me what you all think.

If you went any smaller, it looks like the jacket would be too small in the shoulders and too short in sleeves. This patterned doesn’t lend itself to be worn tight like a MC jacket. The back panels don’t taper down to the waist and it has 2 huge front patch pockets over your midsection. I feel it’s a good fit for the way it was designed for.

The fit is very good and the jacket is one of the best I've seen here in TFL over the years if not the best, if I ever order another jacket, it will be exactly like yours.
Congratulations and enjoy it!

Thank you for your feedback. I still have a lot to learn about this stuff, but what you're saying definitely makes sense!

I love it, awesome jacket. I think the boxy fit gives it a bold look which goes well with the style. The shape of the collar is the best I've seen on any repro jacket.

About the length... I think you're right about the body being one inch too long. Buttoned up it lands on your hips, making the material bunch up on your lower back. But I'm sure it will look better once the leather gets more supple. On second thought, if it had a shorter body length those patch pockets would have moved up an inch as well, positioning them just under your chest. Not only creating an ugly crease, it might have been hugely uncomfortable as well.

Drop by this thread in another six months and me and it will probably be inseparable.

I had a similar 'issue' with my first thedi. When I first got it, I felt the bottom hem was too wide. Today I absolutely love the hour glass shape the wide bottom creates.

As a female friend of mine just said to me about two hours ago while discussing this, "Have you considered working out and actually trying to have the body of a man for once instead of just complaining?" Lol...so yeah...now I absolutely NEED to make this jacket my own.

Also, duuuuude. Are all of those jackets in the Instagram link yours? That Thedi "Hunter" looks amazing, as does the 30's sheepskin. That is one insanely amazing collection. If you had to get rid of them all and keep only one for life, which would it be? I love that Montgomery Ward made a jacket almost 100 years ago that you're keeping alive and well. Damn...what a wonderful hobby this can be.
