O.K., I think I am finally emotionally prepared to part with this honey of a jacket.
I have put this jacket up for sale a couple times, thought better of it and taken it down, only to eventually realize again that I just don't wear it that often. I seem to always be reaching for a horsehide or non-leather jacket.
So here you go!
This is a Rough Wear 1401-P bought new from Goodwear Leather in the summer of 2013. Leather is the “Ultra-Vintage Dark Russet Brown” (LGI104), which is in my opinion the perfect in-between shade of Russet and Seal. This hide is light and pliable and very comfortable to wear. The grain is awesome and the finish seems to age very well. The knits are the “Golden Brown” color—most recent addition to Goodwear’s lineup. Marked size 40. Please see measurements below to ensure proper fit. Zipper pull is a NOS Talon from the original time period.
Pictures: The ones of the jacket by itself were taken today. The wearer pics are from a few years ago, but jacket looks essentially the same.
Measurements:
Shoulders: 17 5/8”
Back (from collar seam to start of knit): 20 5/8"
Back (including waistband): 23.5”
Pit-to-pit: 20”
Sleeve (including knit cuff): 24”
For reference, I am 5’7, 150 lbs. with average length arms and torso. I wear a size 38 short suit jacket, and this jacket fits me perfectly. Considering the body length, I would NOT recommend this to someone taller than me.
Condition:
Really good. This has been worn intermittently and seen perhaps at total of two months of wear since I’ve owned it. The leather is nice and broken in with the usual bits of character here and there. No issues to speak of, except for a spot of very slight discoloration to the right sleeve (see pic) which is actually not really noticeable but I wanted to point it out for the sake of full disclosure. The zipper, snaps, eye hook, all work perfectly. The knits are in good shape with no holes. The liner is likewise very good. Most notable issue overall would be that the waistband has been stretched out. I did this purposely because, with such soft and flexible goatskin, it made the jacket sit better at the waist. Otherwise, this jacket in fantastic shape.
Seriously, if this fits you, jump on it before I change my mind again.
Price is $825 plus shipping. That’s about 70% of what you’d pay for a new one, along with a two year wait.
Please ask any and all questions before purchasing, as I cannot accept returns on this item.]
