FS Five Star Seal Horsehide Half Belt

Up for sale: Brand new Five Star Half Belt in Seal Horsehide. This is a great jacket, but I decided I would rather have one in a lighter color. The hide is a dark brown seal pigment over a russet core, as can be seen on the zipper pull. I think it has the potential to age beautifully. It has a lot of grain variation-- smooth, wrinkles, pebbles, stretch marks, etc. This is a relatively lightweight hide and it has some variation in thickness throughout. Lining is wine red rayon satin in the body and sleeves. Zippers are Talon repros. Leather-lined cuffs with button closures-- no knits in the cuffs.

Measurements:

Chest: 45 inches total. 21.5 inches p2p.
Waist: 41.5 inches
Sleeve: 26 inches
Shoulder: 19 inches
Length: 25.75 inches

Your post leads me to the Five Star thread, and this color fits a niche I’ve been looking for. Wondering if you’d consider this “tea core” or struck through, and if you wouldn’t mind posting your chest/shoulder/arm/waist measurements? Great looking jacket!

It is a darker pigment over a lighter core, not struck through. As far as I know, only a few of the Fivestar leathers are struck through, and they are usually the black hides, I believe. If you look at the picture with the chest measurement on it, you can see the back side of the leather on the zipper pull. I looked at the cross-section of the pull, and the core seems to be slightly lighter than the back side. Also, if you look closely at the picture of the cuff, you can see some of the lighter color peeking out from the cut of the button hole.

Also, in response to the previous question: I rubbed a sample of this same hide on some sandpaper. I have no idea how long it might take to get to this state with normal wear, but here is the result:

Price drop to $225 since I modified it a little and it it is therefore no longer brand new. I sprayed the jacket with warm water and ran it through a cool dryer with some tennis balls. It softened up a bit and now has a nice drape and some of the lighter color showing through the high points of some of the edges.

I also remeasured it-- the chest is actually 45.5 inches around and the shoulders are just shy of 19 inches-- more like 18 3/4 - 18 7/8 inches. (I removed the hanger loop in the collar, too).
