My experiment with stingy hats is over. They just don't work for me; what I thought would make me look like Sinatra makes me look more like Magilla Gorilla.

I'm offering three stingies for sale. I'll post pics/dims separately, but the pricing is as follows:

#1 Champ - $30 shipped lower 48 only. SOLD, NO LONGER AVAILABLE

#2 Dobbs - $45 shipped lower 48 only

#3 Stetson - $20 shipped lower 48 only SOLD, NO LONGER AVAILABLE

Buy two and I'll give a 10% discount, buy all three and you get 20% off.

Paypall preferred but I'll consider other options if you've been active here for a while.

Keep reading for descriptions of each lid.

#1 - Brown Champ -=SOLD=-

This is a nice, clean little hat, I'd guess from the 60s but that's only a guess. No mothing, stains, or funky odors.

Size 7 1/4 as tagged. Fits true to size.

Color is dark brown

Brim 1 5/8 overwelt

Crown 5" open, 3 3/4 as bashed - center dent

Ribbon 2"

Wind Trolley attached

Hard to get a good shot of the black liner, it's a bit stained with what was probably some famous jazz musician's hair tonic. I've naptha'd and cleaned as best I can.

Sweatband is tight, no loose stitches. Leather is a bit worn but is smooth and supple.

#2 Gray Dobbs

This nice little Dobbs is in wonderful shape - the feather is a little bedraggled however. No mothing, stains, or funky odors.

Size 7 1/4 as tagged. Fits true to size.

Color is dark gray

Brim 1 1/2" raw edge

Crown 5" open, 4 1/8" as bashed center dent

Ribbon 2"

I'd guess early 60s, but that's only a guess and it may be older or newer. The liner is sewn in/not glued, but the original price ($17.00) seems high for a 50s model.

Liner is very clean. Plastic liner tip. I haven't seen this particular Dobbs crest before.

Sweatband is supple, not worn or scuffed. No popped threads. Brim color is pretty close to actual.

# 3 Stetson -=SOLD=-

This one is kinda funky (the good kind), but it just isn't me. It was with another hat I bought as a lot and I thought it might work for me but it just doesn't. No mothing, stains or odors but it could use a good cleaning. The liner appears to have been removed and then glued back in place, at which time the sweatband became glued to the liner in spots. I've separated the liner from the sweat and it's kind of adrift altogether in places.

No size indicated, fits like a 7 1/4.

Color is a rich chocolate brown.

Brim 2" with 1/8" binding

Crown 3 3/4" as bashed, kind of an elongated porkpie shape.

Ribbon 1 7/8", two-toned with contrasting center stripe and pinstripes throughout. The ribbon is the nicest feature on this one.

Sweatband is supple and, with the exception of the small nick seen here, is intact with no scuffs or popped threads. Liner is a rich copper color. I couldn't get a good shot of the crest.

Salty,

I feel the same way about stingies and agree with the Magilla issue.

Recently, however, I got the nerve up to work on a Royal Stetson with a sewn turn-under brim. I just couldn't wear the hat, except turned up, ala Yogi Bear, so I figured I had nothing to lose.
I carefully cut away the sewing with a thin, sharp knife and then thoroughly soaked the brim so I could work out the folded-under felt.

I was amazed at the result

It added just enough to the brim width that the hat has a decent proportion.

Now I'm keeping my eyes open for more "folded under" stingies to work on.

Sam
