Frizz and Hair combs

Hi, I'm kindof new to the forum:) First off, "hello" to everybody:) Quick question...does setting lotion work for frizz? I have naturally curly hair, but I still like to use sponge curlers to help it the curls even more. But, I get frizz all the time! I've used so many different products but nothing seems to work. Does setting lotion help with this? I've never used setting lotion, but was thinking about giving it a try or will it be too much for my hair?

Also, hair combs...I can never get them to stay in. I put it in and then a few minutes later they are falling out. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!!

Another note, I started doing the oil cleansing method and ever since then, I haven't had any breakouts and my skin looks so much smoother. My dermatologists have had me on all sorts of products..i.e prescription and over the counter Neutrogena. I stopped using all those products and just clean with the oil and it's amazing!! I would've never had known about this if I hadn't found this forum. Thank you!

Hi Dani!

Welcome to the Lounge--I'm pretty new too! :)

I have curly hair too, but haven't used setting lotion yet either. I'm too worried about possible damage, so I've been using a frizz serum, curl enhancer, and leave-in conditioner when curling my hair. I don't use sponge curlers either--my hair gets caught in the fibers, so I use the hard plastic ones instead and get amazing curl.

Hope that helps!

Please check out the pincurl thread!

Setting lotion only gives you hold for your curls. To combat frizz, you need to add a pomade! Apply your setting lotion first, then add pomade. If you have naturally curly hair, you may not need setting lotion.

As for hair combs, you need to insert them into your hair against the direction of growth. For example, if you're pulling your hair back at the sides, insert the comb so that the tines of the comb are pointing toward your face.

Hi Sweetfrancaise and KittyT,

Thank you for your responses:) Does setting lotion really damage hair? Kitty, is there a good pomade you like to use? I've tried some, but never get the best results. I tried the combs again this morning and they just popped out. I'm wondering if they are too small, which doesn't make much sense because they are just normal size combs. So frustrating!

Here are some links that talk about how to use hair combs. If you read my post in the first link below, I talk about how I use mine, and a similar problem. See if that sounds like your problem :)

Here is a thread dedicated to setting lotion. It is 7 pages long, it may have some answers for you :)

To a Bartender: Can we maybe start a hair comb thread since this issue has popped up twice in the last 2 days? Maybe merge them together?

Pomade....

This may sound like a real "duh" question, but exactly what is pomade, and does it make your hair oily? When I first saw the word pomade, I though of gel or something. Thanks ladies......

pomade

yeah, that's pretty much why i've always stayed away from pomade. my hair gets really oily by the end of the day. and i only like to wash my hair twice a week (advice from my hairdresser). if i use pomade, i feel like it just weighs it down. maybe i'm using too much though

Setting lotion like said by KittyT is just for holding the curl in as for pomade though you shouldn't use more then a dime size amount for your hold head. What I end up doing with it is rub a small amound in my hands and after I brush my hair out just kind of shape the hair with my hands that are lightly cover in the pomade. If you have oily hair just stay about 2-3 inches away from your roots and it shouldn't look oily. Hopefully that helps a bit!
