Amendment I - Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression. Ratified 12/15/1791.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
On the History Channel this evening they documented the tragedy and investigation of the Russian submarine
SSGN KURSK. During the investigation, some family members of the crew voiced their dissatisfaction for wrong doing on the behalf of the government. I was absolutely astonished when one lady was speaking, a government official, in full view of the public, administered a hypodermic needle full of tranquilizers.
I know the First Amendment is often debated and taken for granted in this country. And, freedom of speech is supressed in others. For some reason, that scene crystalized just how precious our liberties are in this country.
Many thanks to the leaders and troops who have fought and are fighting to protect my freedoms. So I can sit and talk about my likes and dislikes without having to look over my shoulder.
I am done rambling. I'll close my tab at the bar....
Cheers,
Pyr.
