Free Panama?

I've never really considered a Panama, but out of curiosity I surfed to some links in the Panama Hats for Sumer thread. One of them was panamahatsdirect.com. They had an offer to win a free hat, so I figured what the heck and entered the email I use for those things. Sure enough, I won.

Now for the catch: I have to pay $16.95 shipping and handling. Is the hat they're going to give me worth that much? It certainly aint a Montecristi Ultrafino, but it is a hat that they say usually sells for 48 bucks plus shipping. Has anyone else done this and received their "free" hat?

No experience with them (although I think there are some past discussions), but it would be hard for it not to be worth $17. That said, it does sound simply like a marketing ploy rather than a true contest.

Shipping Costs

I just bought a hat from Panama Bob's wife's EBAY account and they're charging me $12.99 for shipping, so it doesn't sound that bad to me. I'd take it.

We all see what's happening with gas prices, now take a look at diesel. It's now about $1 more than regular unleaded gas. This gets passed down to all of us. We can have "fuel surcharge" increases almost weekly forcing us to split our shipments between UPS, FedEx and the USPS just to try and keep from raising our customers shipping fees. Hang on folks, it's only going to get worse.

I've been in the drawing ever since and haven't one. Definitely get the hat. Panama Bob will tell you that Casey (the owner) is a nice guy whom he respects.

Actually, I don't know if respect is a word I'd use for someone who withheld the truth from me and cost me $. I, also, don't understand what a missionary is doing working, but to each his own!

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I guess I'll go for it. Since my knowledge of Panamas is limited, I just wanted to make sure there weren't hats like this out there going for the same price.

I'm not sure I'm really a Panama kind of guy, and this seems like the cheapest way for me to test the waters. I'll report back on what I get.
