Good Evening Everyone:

I just finished all 9 seasons of "Foyles War". I had seen them sporadically over the last few years but not straight through. Personally I found it very enjoyable and it seemed to try and follow the attitudes of the times as far as I could tell. I just could not get over how well they managed to find the correct automobiles i.e. that Red Jaguar in Season 7 or the really cool drophead Morgans etc that rambled by on occasion. But the clothing...Outerwear in particular like the Shackelton Waistcoats with the wool uniforms from the war or the "Irvins" and the sweaters of the Spitfire pilots. It really brought it all into focus. I know that it could be picked to pieces with nuanced views of those that know English clothing of the period but for the novice like myself I thought they did an excellent job.

Now for those of you "in the know" I would really appreciate your viewpoints because I may watch it again. Besides the fact that I truly enjoyed the actors especially Michael Kitchens and Honeysuckle Weeks.

Loved the series also.
I would think there are now lots of places to hire out old clothing or at least new 'old' style clothes. Vehicles, well you could possibly rent one really cheap as a lot of owners are a bit vain and love bragging rights that their car, motorbike etc appeared in a film or on TV. Only when you have something really special can you command the top money. Check out the story of the 1934 Ford they used in the 1970s Jack Nicholson film 'Chinatown'
Though I don't like to dress so I look like I live the 1940s, I would really like one of those long belted overcoats Michael Kitchen's character wears. Preferably in camel hair or a heavy wool (and new rather than secondhand).
One thing I would not be seen dead in though is those high waisted trousers with braces, nothing wrong with the braces but the trousers really do look like I am trying to do a fancy dress thing (imho:cool:). OK for a themed night out though.
Cheers, J
