'Four in one' ties

Two Types

Below is an example of a 'four in one' tie - i.e. it has the option of being worn to show one of colours. It is wool and I would expect it to be British (simply because I found it in a sack full of British ties). I have never seen another example and have been wondering about its origins. I did a search on the lounge but couldn't find any threads referring to 'four in ones'.

Does anyone know anything about these type of ties? What era are they from? Were they ever a success? I'd be grateful to hear anything anyone knows.

These details shows the weave:

The colours are very similar since they seem to be woven from the same threads but woven to give a different emphasis.

$250 dollars for a tie (even if it can be worn four ways) is way too high for my tastes! Also, I find the letter 'H' in the corner is a tad vulgar for my tastes. They should pay the wearer to advertise their company, not vice versa.
Oh, I concur on all your points. I was simply linking to the tie which was being discussed in that thread link. I think 4-in-1 ties have been around since the Golden Era though their popularity has never risen above novelty status.

I picked up a 4 in 1 tie for my other half in a charity shop a few months ago for the princely sum of £2.99! I thought they were a very good idea, although I haven't seen another since.
