Up for sale is a beautiful brown Dobbs homburg with box, size 7, originally sold by Rogers Peet. The hat is in great condition, box has some wear to the lid and part of the bottom is loose. I taped the bottom from the inside to hold it and prevent further seperation.
I bought the hat from eBay, where the seller had incorrectly stated the size. At this point in my hat collecting, I can't really blame the seller, as the Rogers Peet Dobbs box it's in has a size slip with the 7 1/4 box checked, and silly me didn't ask the seller for a measurement. My bad, but it can be your boon if you have a vintage sized head and are looking for a sweet old homburg to display upon it!
The open crown is 5 3/4" high, the curled brim is 2 1/4". Head opening is approx.7 3/4' by 6 1/2" (I measured carefully, tried for within 1/16" margin of error). The leather is supple, the stitching all looks good. The only bit of damage I see is a lump of verdigris at the sweatband joint, as is common with hats from this era. No mothing visible, no odors. The liner us clean, the onionskin tip protector is not discolored.
Featured the debossed Dobbs logo on the sweatband, and the liner crest looks to be one of the '40-'45 rondels as seen on the Professor's Dobbs dating guide.
I'm not looking to make a profit from my fellow Loungers. I just want to get my money back and not have to eat my mistake, so to speak. Asking 85 dollars shipped CONUS.
PM if interested. Thank you for looking!
