Well, after going through my collection I realized that I have quite a few velour/long hairs now, and another one on the way. I decided to put this up for sale on the lounge FIRST before going to ebay with it. This is an EXTREMELY RARE circa 1919/1920 Austrian velour by one of the most premier Austrian hat makers, Anton Peschel. It is one of the best Velours I have ever laid my hands on. How did I come up with a date of 1919/1920? Well, on the back of the sweatband, the original price tag shows a price of $25 with a 2 dollar tax. This would have been a pretty high tax for the early part of the 20th century. It turns out that after World War 1 some items had a "war tax" which only lasted from about 1919 - about 1920 or so. That 2 dollar tax is a war tax, so it places the hat within that range. The actual color of the hat is a dark green, but for some reason the light sensor of my camera gave the hat a radioactive hue and made it very bright green. Its NOT that green. Like I said, its a dark green. The original ribbon was completely deteriorated, but I have replaced the torn and tattered original ribbon with a donor ribbon from an early 1920's Stetson. The ribbon is from the same time frame as the hat and looks right at home. Otherwise, everything in the hat is original. The hat doesn't have a liner, and I'm unsure if there ever was one. The inside of the crown is very nicely finished and seems unlikely that they would finish a part of the crown that wouldn't be seen.

A VERY similar (the two hats could be siblings) Anton Peschel Velour in black and in size 7 sold on ebay less than 6 months ago for over $900. It just shows how incredible the quality of this hat is and how desirable they are. If you purchase this hat, I guarantee you will NOT be disappointed.

BRIM: 2 1/4 INCHES WIDE

CROWN: 5 3/4 OPEN

I'm only asking $250 SHIPPED OBO for this hat because I think $250 is a reasonable price for such a quality hat.

This is more of the real color.....

These pictures are NOT the real color (flash on my camera), but show the incredible quality of the velour and the fine long hair nap.
