Remember my admission before about wearing Caterpillar boots? Well I've got more than one pair.

You saw the Sequoias before, but these are my Orsons. Lighter weight and here worn with cheapo Summer jeans:

I'm sure it's a weird optical illusion, but it really looks like you are wearing your shoes on the wrong feet!

All these photos of rigid leather boots are making my feet sore. o_O Unless and until I change careers and become a railroad engineer, I am sticking with my eminently more comfortable sneakers.
yup..couldn't agree more but sometimes I feel like I have to at least try to wear more "adult" shoes...

What? You can wear thick ass leather jackets but can't a pair of regular calfskin shoes? :D

I do think that most shoes and boots these days are made with way too heavy leather though.

It's true that I tend to wear sneakers most of the time just because it's more practical. But hoping to change that with my upcoming pair of engineer boots... We'll see :)

It's funny, I've never been a "trainers" sort of a bloke.

I've always worn boots instead: Caterpillars, engineers*, square toe harness boots, desert boots, Chelsea boots.

But hardly trainers really, other than some All Stars years ago I used to wear with shorts. They've long gone now, and I've just got a single pair of black Nikes for that - but I think I see a pair of off-white Supergas hoving into view on the horizon.

With jeans though, or chinos, it's always boots. Always now, and always has been.

* I bought a pair of hand-made Mexican engineer boots on Carnaby Street decades ago, and loved them fully. I wore them to destruction, and then flipped then on eBay as "distressed" to a student.

I couldn't wear engineers any more, as in a misbegotten attempt to hold on to my youth, I wear skinny jeans now.

@ton312 it's not too hard to order from Japan. The real issue is sizing. What size are you on a Brannock/what is your size in Chucks?
That's what worries me! Chucks are size 11. But all of the sudden these ugly ass boots have intrigued me as they look like chucks and bowling shoes had a baby. They are Horween leather. Thorogood 1892's. Any thoughts? They aren't nearly as cool as the dub trio boot but I do like them. I really want one decent pair of boots. I won't fall into a rabbit hole on shoes. I don't think. Mainly a pair of leather chicks keeps me happy until I'm falling ass down in the snow and ice.

Thorogood is inconsistent with quality. If you can try on and examine a pair yourself then go for it! I personally would not risk that brand online

Thanks dude. There's a brick and mortar store in Milwaukee that has a generous return policy. What's your take on the dub sizing. What symbol equates to an eleven? I hate to be ignorant but when I see stuff I love online and it directs to ratuken or other Japanese sites I get cold and afraid.

That's good. You should be able to find a quality pair out of that.

Unfortunately, the highest size that I see the RDT boots go up to in Japan is 9.5 which based on my experience with Japanese boots is probably only equivalent to a 10.5. This is the biggest issue with Japanese footwear. The only brands that consistently make large enough sizes are Clinch and John Lofgren (Lofgren is run by a California native)
