Flight Apparel Industries Inc A2 in size 44. Purchased new at the National Museum of the US Air Force in 1984 (see receipt and catalog) and hardly worn since. An A2 Brown Leather Flight Jacket Men’s Sz 44 Very good to excellent condition. Made in the USA
Manufactured at the airport in Hammonton NJ. Seems they went out of business in the late 80s when The owner of the company was killed in a light plane crash there. The original Army Air Corps flight jacket, first issued in 1938 is recreated in this model. Scoville zippers, oxidized snaps fasteners, a nickel plated brass collar clip so it fits well, has good color knits, hide and epaulettes. I believe this is the goatskin version that’s nicer, mid weight, and quite horselike. It’s well made of goatskin?, with well-done stitching. The leather is an excellent mid-weight hide in a nice medium brown. These make great jackets to paint artwork on the back, or sew patches to. FAI is certainly one of the authentic military providers, and a company that has a place in post war military jacket history No rips, tears, holes, stains, smells. $149 ($175 in 1984 equals $449.98 in 2021.) includes priority shipping in USA dispatched same day direct to your door.
It measures approximately
size 44
Pit 23
Hem 20
Sleeve 25
Front length 25 1/2
Back length 24
Shoulder 18.5/18.75
