It occurred to me that some day the info here on the Lounge will become that same kind iof historical artifact that we Loungers treasure in the form of old photographs and letters. One hundred years from now some future (what will the interenet be called by then?) user will tell a friend "I just found this old bulletin board from the early 21st century that has all sorts of ancient images of artifacts from the early 20th century."
Anyone care to comment?

It's a pretty big gamble that MK's server will still be operational by then, and that there won't be some whole new internet protocol that doesn't read html.

But, it's still a cool idea.

"... but you have to sift through oceans of 'how old is this coat?' threads..."

I would think that somewhere it will be archived where it's accessible. It will be a real treasure trove to somebody in the future, I don't you think?

For future generations who might wonder why some of us prefer styles and artifacts from the past, here's my explanation: Most of today's clothing styles are unflattering even on models. Most of the comedies aren't funny; the humor is on a junior high-school level. The dramas are often raw and disturbing. The houses are cheaply made. Dancing has been in a strange state since the 1960s. As for music, it's so uninspiring now that I don't bother to listen to it.

In other words, we want something better. I think our society is in a transitional phase now and some of us, as much as we'd like to look more to the future, find more of what suits us in the past.

i don't see why not! we're doing a lot of grunt work here...doing the research, pooling all the info together. we could be seen as a sort of 'gatekeeper' for the Golden Era. if anyone in the future wanted to know about the fourties and they happened upon FL...they will have hit a real goldmine!

You know, I think this place is already an excellent pool of knowledge deserving of some wonderment...

As far as the future, I'm sure if anything, our ability to politely discuss issues as well as our vintage charm will certainly play a role in this place being a gem found by some odd programmer who ends up becoming obsessed with the ruins of our board.

(I don't remember the website, but there is a group that used to take "photos" of each webpage in order to archive everything. Don't know if they still do that.)

I have no idea what a novel will look like in the future but the FL is already a treasure trove of novel material. :)

Actually, MK's autobiography or biography should be a fascinating read as well. :)

Anyone up for printing thousands of webpages and submitting them to their local Public Records? :p

I have this vision of people in the future looking at photos of members here and around this culture, and getting confused about the year.
