Fit check: FCL Eric Jacket

Hey all,

This is my first leather jacket and I finally got it in hand today. The jacket is new straight from self edge and I sized up, but I'm unsure about the fit. My initial thoughts are that it looks great, but movement is a bit restricted if I try to put my hands in the coat pockets. Would really appreciate your input here, as well as expectations on if it will loosen up over time.

Context: I'm 5'10" and ~170 lbs with a good amount of muscle (~41 inch chest) and I picked up a size 44.

Thanks!

Appreciate the input, both! I keep debating if it fits well or not so wanted to ask the community here.

I have been in Self Edge while their staff tried to convince someone that an FCL that clearly didn't fit him actually fit very well, so I understand lol. I wanted to interrupt but they'd probably kick me out.

Lol, well... For once, it looks okay to me although I may be framing my opinion in the context of contrast to many other FCL jackets recently seen here. It isn't the sort of fit I would call spectacular our outstanding but generally speaking, it's just okay.

I can tell you with absolute certainty, though, that the restriction of movement will not ease up with wear since it is a result of a pattern, not stiffness of leather or size of the jacket.

Going against the flow here, but this is a pretty good fit, IMO.

I wonder if the general bias against FCL is clouding the eye here, but other than shoulders and hem being slightly wide, I really cannot see anthing wrong with the way it fits. It looks good with a T-Shirt, you will be able to layer a sweatshirt and break-in will contour it to your frame, so you are good to gi.

Thank you all for the replies - I think I’m leaning towards keeping it and seeing how it conforms to my body. Going through the process of returning it for store credit or selling it on here seems like a lot of inertia

Does SE not refund?

...how it conforms to my body.

The "you have to break in your leather jacket" nonsense is where and how they get you. Your brand new leather jacket should feel (near) perfectly comfortable right out of the box and if it doesn't, nothing is ever going to change.
Other than you getting used to it. That's how all "success" stories of a broken in leather jacket that was initially unwearable, are formed.

It looks like you have a bunch of room in the chest in the pics, thats why i say it looks large. Looking at their pictures it looks like its meant to have short arms. It looks like its supposed to be joey ramone style.

I mean it is comfortable - it just slightly restricts 90 degree movements when I’m putting my hands in my pocket, which I don’t feel is a deal breaker for me.

I more meant the stiffness is going to decrease and movement should become slight easier over time

I do get the argument that a jacket should be near perfect if you’re dropping $1.7k on it, though.

Honestly not that much room and it’s unwearable if I put on a chunky sweater. The P2P is 21.5 and my chest is 41 inches so I’m unsure if that’s the issue.
