Hello there,
first time poster here from New Zealand. I recently took the plunge and purchased a custom aeromarine direct from Aero. My leather jacket history is quite tragic. I normally end up buying jackets that either don't suit me or don't fit right. All those have gone but I was still wondering about a new one. Understandably I was apprehensive about spending big $ on another jacket.
I took the plunge and ordered an aeromarine in battered steer. Aero sent me a few samples and it was a toss up between the steer or seal goat as I wanted a lighter weight.
The aeromarine really caught my eye due the vintage look, especially the buttons and shawl collar. I felt the slightly aged look of the steer would suit this style.
I also opted for hand warmer pockets and a black watch tartan lining.
The next issue was measurements.
I measured myself and numerous jackets and shirts, multiple times. I sent aero a few shots of me wearing a well fitting jacket also. Needless to say I was nervous the measurements would be wrong and jacket would have to go back. Luckily Sam at Aero was very patient.
Thankyou Sam.
I am a reasonably slim bulid with a 42 chest, 5' 11", about 82 kg, and a fairly long torso.
I opted for a slightly longer back at 26.5" and arms of 26", also a fraction longer.
The shoulder width is about 18".
The jacket finally arrived last week and I feel relieved - it is a superb jacket. The fit is pretty much spot on - it fits like a glove.
The only slight issue is some looseness around the waist. I'm not sure if this style is supposed to be snug around the waist, but it's not too baggy. Possibly I could have gone a fraction tighter.
The battered steer is soft and has a slight shine and a lovely brown shade.
But, despite being a 'lighter' weight leather, it is still a very substantial jacket. It makes my last leather jacket - a lightweight sheepskin jacket, seem completely puny.
I have worn it a few times already and look forward to many years with it.
The only issue now is what to get next!. I feel one, only one more might be on the cards!. Thankyou Aero.

Perfect fit! That battered steer is a beautiful hide, and it only gets better.

The waist looks about right. After it starts to break-in and form fit, you’ll be surprised. I tend to agree with navetsea about opening that next-to-top button. That is, unless you are only throwing your shoulders back just for the pics. Otherwise, you may develop a wrinkle in the leather around that button.

Congrats!

thanks. It is snug across the chest when buttoned but not too tight. Ideally, getting measured by an expert would have undoubtedly helped but i'm pretty happy with the fit.

Welcome and congratulations on your first Aero! Great jacket and real nice fit as well!

I think this is a style that is a bit roomier at the waist, my Aeromarine definitely have more space there than my other Aero jackets.

Perfect first time, well done. I have a Shackleton made from battered steer and I’ve often thought it would be a great material for a full jacket, it’s so soft and easy to wear.

Congratulations on your acquisition of a fantastic jacket with what appears to be a very nice fit too. Welcome to the Lounge.

Excellent choice! Iw ould not worry about the fit whatsoever and just enjoy wearing it! It's your jacket, enjoy it! :)

Now - Good luck with round #2. I could see a zip-up model, maybe a Cafe Racer, or a Sheene in Black?

What size did you start with on the order? I'm in the process of ordering an aeromarine size 40 however I/m being told the shoulders are 18.5 to 19"
I need it to be 18"
I'm not sure I'll go through with my order or not at this point. The sizing on aero seems to be all over the place a 40 is a 42 a 38 seems to fit like a 40???

The Aero fit is really all over the place especially with different patterns, the measurement tend to coincide depending what era the jacket would have been made whether it be with 20s 30s 40s 50s. You can go custom with your shoulder/chest/waist measurements but it's non returnable
