first time poster here from New Zealand. I recently took the plunge and purchased a custom aeromarine direct from Aero. My leather jacket history is quite tragic. I normally end up buying jackets that either don't suit me or don't fit right. All those have gone but I was still wondering about a new one. Understandably I was apprehensive about spending big $ on another jacket.
I took the plunge and ordered an aeromarine in battered steer. Aero sent me a few samples and it was a toss up between the steer or seal goat as I wanted a lighter weight.
The aeromarine really caught my eye due the vintage look, especially the buttons and shawl collar. I felt the slightly aged look of the steer would suit this style.
I also opted for hand warmer pockets and a black watch tartan lining.
The next issue was measurements.
I measured myself and numerous jackets and shirts, multiple times. I sent aero a few shots of me wearing a well fitting jacket also. Needless to say I was nervous the measurements would be wrong and jacket would have to go back. Luckily Sam at Aero was very patient.
Thankyou Sam.
I am a reasonably slim bulid with a 42 chest, 5' 11", about 82 kg, and a fairly long torso.
I opted for a slightly longer back at 26.5" and arms of 26", also a fraction longer.
The shoulder width is about 18".
The jacket finally arrived last week and I feel relieved - it is a superb jacket. The fit is pretty much spot on - it fits like a glove.
The only slight issue is some looseness around the waist. I'm not sure if this style is supposed to be snug around the waist, but it's not too baggy. Possibly I could have gone a fraction tighter.
The battered steer is soft and has a slight shine and a lovely brown shade.
But, despite being a 'lighter' weight leather, it is still a very substantial jacket. It makes my last leather jacket - a lightweight sheepskin jacket, seem completely puny.
I have worn it a few times already and look forward to many years with it.
The only issue now is what to get next!. I feel one, only one more might be on the cards!. Thankyou Aero.
