I have a Conmar that looks somewhat similar... I don't think this one is period correct, though...

EDIT: Consensus on VLJ seems to be that this jacket is experiencing dry rot.

Nice zipper, looks like an early 50s, like the Talon. Military application. The Conmar on the identified Windward is an early 50s example with the name down the middle of stop. Imitating a Talon of the same era.

They used these on the early Durables and they typically are broken on the pin side. Durable went to the big Talon. I would guess they knew the shortcomings of the Conmar.

Replacing with a period Talon would be the way to keep it original. I would not install another Conmar.

Nice ID by @Marc mndt with his Windward. This is a quality Jacket well worth a zipper. There isn't much difference in the quality of these MC jackets in this time frame. Pretty much they were all well made with the best leather available. The names don't make much difference.

Personally, I would take Conmar over Talon in most cases. Talons are very nice and easier to find because they had a huge distribution network and a much bigger production. For the 50's and 60's period jackets, conmar made a much better product than Talon. Crown, conmar, and others took a killer bite at Talon's stronghold of the zipper supplied to the military. If I can find a conmar NOS male, I would only change that side of the zipper. In terms of quality, conmar has it all over talon in the #5 segment. Lastly, most iconic jackets had nice bell shape talons that STILL going strong.

Since we are out here tryna get our boy @Will Zach to bite on a Cal to take to Florida so he doesn't have to go all CROCKETT AND TUBBS........., Though likely a bit small for him, I present this one with a low opening bid of $120. No Cal tag......... I didn't see fur in the sleeves. But it looks very Cal to me........ and looks clean

Cool, old, and well battered California Sportswear Half Belt. Measurements are somewhat.......lacking (shocker!!!) -- Cheap opening bid.

Interesting/Confusing (to me) main zipper. LOOKS LIKE a Talon Base. I know the prewar Talons have some V markings on the pull but I don't know if this is one of those. @tmitchell59 and @photo2u can better inform on this.
Cuffs make me think its pretty old (40s??).

Listing says horsehide and it COULD be old HH. But it also has sort of a Capeskin/Calf/Nappa like graining. Again, others perhaps can ID this hide if it isn't horse.
