Carlos is right I think.

It a great score! At that price I wouldn’t care what Langlitz model it is, especially as it apparently very serendipitously fitted the lucky finder perfectly - what’s the chances? I think we all dream of stumbling over a score like this... But for what it’s worth, the jacket looks quite similar to a (much older - green label) Langlitz featured in my very recently acquired vintage jacket book.

https://bulangandsons.com/products/vintage-leather-jacket?_pos=1&_sid=d275c5a8a&_ss=r

That jacket is described in the book as a “Cossack Columbia.” So I think it’s a Columbia base with a different collar like the one on the cascade...

Interesting. Only difference is that @Keith Garrison's jacket has an added chest pocket.

Pretty high price, but looks very nice. Brand I have never heard of - Knopf Sportswear _
https://www.etsy.com/listing/939647...2-25&from_market_listing_grid_organic=1&cns=1

I saw that Knopf recently. Most Knopf jackets are stand outs. I've been following one on ebay for over a year, waiting for a reduction in price. It is a half-belt style in the same Rich looking black leather.

Kurland, Guide Master by Wolfe, Knopf are The East Coast makers of note. Their leathers always bring attention. A Kurland was just found my another member. It looks to be the same Rich Horsehide. I have that same Kurland with a Sportclad label and leather that is as nice as anything made then or now.

I found this beauty at the local consignment store. I think it qualifies as a find, because it was priced just under $200. It was one of those “no, it can’t be” moments when I saw it hung on the wall just after walking into the shop. When I verified it really was Langlitz, I thought, it is not going to fit me. I tried it on and it fit like it was made for me. Because fate had smiled at me, I knew I wasn’t leaving without buying it. At first, I was a little disappointed that it wasn’t a Columbia or black. The more I have worn it, the more I like the Cascade (do I have that right?) design and the dark brown (almost black) color. View attachment 309064 View attachment 309065
I could use some help with the zippers, though. The Talon bell zippers on the sleeves and pockets look original.

However, I am not so sure about the Lenzio main zipper.

is it original or a replacement?

That jacket is a Columbia model, but it has the cossack collar rather than the standard dress collar. The Cascade is a different model, which has the cossack collar as its standard, but there are other differences between the two designs, and yours is clearly a Columbia.

I don't know about the main zip, I have never seen a Lenzio zipper before, let alone on a Langlitz. I'd expect it's likely a replacement. For $200 you couldn't do much better. Great find.

In my limited experience with the zip, Lenzip are pretty darn good. Big and solid. Trustworthy. I love the one on my Vanson Force.

that small racer looks like Fidelity no? I remember seeing similar label and definitely that pattern in the arm pits.

I owned an Eagleson’s just like this. This one has a few issues but I can tell you the leather is extremely nice. Very cool jacket. Mine was from the 40s. They were a retail outlet out of the Bay Area.

Take a close look at the stitching holding the zip in place. If there are spare holes with no thread it’ll be a replacement. If there are no spare holes it’s either a professional job where they’ve carefully re- stitched into the same holes or an original zipper tape. Of course either way the puller may be a replacement. Also look at the name if any on the stop box at the bottom of the ‘female’ side of the zip. If it’s an original tape judging by the name on the stopper box look for a matching zipper pull - they often come up on eBay b

Can somebody school me on something? At first I thought this was just a men's jacket in a small size, but given the proportions (with a 24" sleeve length), it does seem likely to be a women's jacket, as listed. I'm aware that the side the zipper pull is on has as much to do with country of the clothing's origin as it does with which gender it was originally designed for, but I've always thought that, wherever you are in the world, a double rider that zips up toward the wearer's right shoulder is a men's jacket, and one that zips up toward the left shoulder a women's. Is that incorrect? And also possibly unenlightened/narrow-minded/sexist?

It's a good rule of thumb, but not always the case. I have seen a number of jackets on ebay.de that specify men on the jacket's label, while the zipper zips up to the left shoulder. I have also seen women's jackets that zip up to the right shoulder. For instance, this Vanson:

m_6020590760fdedc201596722.jpeg

I will say, I have never seen an American brand make a jacket for men that zips to the left shoulder.

Now, that Cal in particular, I don't really know. If the jacket was really made in the 1960s and for the CHP, then it definitely wouldn't be a woman's. No women were allowed in until 1974! However, Cal also made jackets for non-LEO, or it could also be post-1974. I don't think I have ever seen a Cal Leather that zips up to the left, so maybe they just kept the same exact style regardless of who was having a jacket made.

So is it possible it's a woman's jacket? I think so. But it's also very possible that they made a jacket for this guy:

@Jumper I always thought that if a x-zip goes to the left shoulder it is definitely a female’s jacket, but one that zips towards the right shoulder could be either. At that point you look for other little clues (darts, how the jacket is sized, etc.). Now, on straight zips I have been baffled a few times lol.
