I need help with a coat. I never ask so...I found a really nice very clean Field and Stream chocolate brown suede jacket with label Gordon and Ferguson of 1970s.
The size is 48.
It is not like a dinner jacket but a coat.
My ? is would this automatically be considered what is called a "field jacket?"
Don't laugh.
The field jackets are shaped like this but I cannot imagine suede being in the field at all.
thanks for any help.

You get 70s suede coats called 'Safari jackets', but that's just the pattern/style translated in a then-fashionable material, rather than a description of its function as a garment. I imagine it's the same thing with this coat.

Can you get a photo up?

I don't think I am able to as I am a vendor or seen as one on FL. I will check out what Safari (i sort of know but not on this particular brand) vs Field looks like. Thank you.

Field and Stream is a very old brand of outdoors clothing-
Gordon & Ferguson are a company who made leather flight jackets in WW2.

Is it an outdoors-y jacket/coat?
Sounds like you're wanting to call it a Field Jacket because of the Field & Stream brand name.

A field jacket can be something military styled, as in the Field Jackets from WW2, M-41 and M-43, or it can be used as an outdoors-y term.
Two different fields-

hmm. mine only has a pocket right in the center on each side of the chest. Fairly big pocket.
What is a field jacket? thank you for your help. I greatly appreciate it.

yes, this is why. I was stunned that Field and Stream made clothing at all. Is this the same company as the magazine?

now I find one similar online calling it rider style. good grief.

I think the magazine is a different Field & Stream- the (clothing)company was founded in the late 19th century. But then, who knows who is related to whom, in the 21st century?

It doesn't look like a denim/jean jacket, does it? but in suede?
