HELP! Gift for my Sugar, on the low...

I currently have a crisis....

I'm an unemployed cosmetology student. This means the only money I make is off tips and that only wracks up about $40 in tips a week, MAX. Well my darlings birthday is coming up on August 11, and I'm about to have quite a panic attack about what I'm going to do for him. He has tastes similar to mine... he's a lover of 1940s-1950s styles and what not. (oh and he is a big kung fu fanatic) I need you crafty ladies and fellas to help me come up a good gift and birthday outing idea for under $100! I hate to be such a cheapo... and he always seems to over indulge me for his birthday! I just want to do the same for him! This is a photo of us:

What a beautiful couple!
You can do something wonderful for his birthday without even spending that much. Birthday's shouldn't be about buying gifts, its for celebrating his coming into the world.
Maybe you could find somewhere great and plan a picnic? Like next to the beach...surprise him and bring along his favorite beer/wine,a wireless and a cd player for music.
You could also make a vintage style card on your computer, even with the photo you've already posted. Write something sentimental, like a short poem, maybe how you met and fell in love. Or write something fun and sexy, you can get ideas by reading some cards at the Hallmark Store. Decorate it with some vintage type trimmings.
You could buy him a gift if you so desire. Maybe a new hat or vintage belt buckle? Maybe you could get him something for his car?
You could have a photo of you two engraved on a piece jewelry, like a military tag or key chain plate so he can take you everywhere.:)
Do you two dance? Maybe you could sign both of you up for dance lessons.

I agree with the picnic. My hubby and I were going through a crunch one time, (which sometimes happens a lot lol ) but I had the best date with him on a picnic. He told me he wanted to go for a Sunday drive. I love country drives but he pulled up at this great Indian mound and surprised me with a picnic basket from the backseat. It may have been only a sandwich, pie and cheap wine but we spent the rest of the afternoon hiking around some trails and checking out the nature sites. Best thing of all...it was free.

Picnic was the first thing that came to my mind also. You can make it sexy, take fresh berries and homemade whipped cream, etc.

Write a bunch of sweet or sexy little notes and hide them around the house... in his pants pockets, shoes, under his pillow, in his wallet. Someone did this for me once and it was something I'll never forget.

Make a little handmade book of "coupons" he can redeem for things you can do for him. They can be things you know he hates doing on his own, nice things, sexy things, massages....

Write him a list of things you love about him and put it on some nice stationary. It's something he can carry with him all the time.

I hate to be the non-romantic one but... anyway, A friend of mine is into martial arts and was wearing his shoes (apparently he bought them for his classes) They were about 14 bucks, and pretty neat. I have no clue what brand they were though, he said they were from china lol[huh] not incredibly helpful, but it's a thought.

If you have some time and some patience, making a handkerchief, or buying one new/vintage, and embroidering a monogram for him would be something inexpensive but heartfelt, that he could carry around with him. If you were really being extravagant you could monogram a few with his initials. Just make sure you wash the fabric/hankies before you embroider them!

Also, I agree on picnics being a good idea. Find somewhere shady, lay out a blanket, and bring a big ol' basket full of goodies. If you can manage at least something homemade, it will be even more winning. Good luck, and remember to breathe!

I don't recall ever seeing a brand on them, either. Possibly it was stamped in chinese on the insole. I wouldn't worry about brand anyways, brand-name ones are for competion types. The china town/import store ones are for scuffing around in and being so cheap it doesn't bother you much when the soles are spent.

I agree with everyone else who is saying that as much as it is nice to be able to spoil someone, it doesn't have to be expensive, it just has to be meaningful.

Think simple. He'll be more than happy to get some homemade cookies and a kiss on the cheek. Although I really like the picnic idea. Maybe a trip to a local carnival and ride on the ferris wheel?

Jezebel,

You look...absolutely...

BEAUTIFUL!!

Okay, compliment over.

I support the whole "homecooked meal" dealie. It's simple, it's loving and it need not break the bank.
