This in undeniably the ultimate fan of "ChristmasStory"

"And he says stepping onto Ralphie's old street makes him feel like he's in the movie.

Standing in front of the house holding a replica Red Ryder rifle, he discusses his future plans - which could include a nearby bed and breakfast - when, seemingly on a director's cue, a motorist passes, stops his car, rolls down the window and shouts, "You'll shoot your eye out, kid!" "

Jean Shepherd: An American Master

This really does speak to the love of the Movie, Americana, and the ability of Jean Shepherd to give voice to American kids growing up in the post WWII era.

Downstairs, on the double!
Didn't I get a tie this year?
I double-dog dare you!

I do not remember seeing or hearing of the movie in 83-and wasnt until the late 90's that I saw it--kind of a tv phenom-but a fun movie.

great story

That movie has been a favorite since it came out. The first time I showed it to my wife-to-be she sat through it unsmiling. I presumed she didn't understand some of it. When I explained she said "No, I got it". That phrase has gone down in our personal history. Luckily, when she saw it again some years later she enjoyed it.

Sincerely,
The Wolf

I should've looked a little further!

Sorry folks, I should've looked a little further through the posts so I wouldn't make a repeat Christmas Story thread!

Did you see this as well, a few of the characters have their own My Space page. Click on their pics to see photos of them now, pretty funny! There are pics of the house renovation too.
Here's Flick's page, and you can click on the house and others in his friends section,

Sequals usally aren't any good, what do you think of My Summer Story? Haven't seen it yet.

I'd love to see the house. There are a few sellers on ebay that make the lamps. I went to a yard sale a few years ago here in MO and their garage was full of them, they were one of the main sellers, what a hoot!

By the way, I reallllly want the hat that the mother standing in line in front of Ralphie to see Santa wears. The maroon suit would be nice too in my size!

No one knows what year it was in the movie?? 39, no??

It was supposed to be just before WWII or just after, I can't rmember which. SO about either 1939-40 or 1946-47.

If you get the latest DVD they have the Director's commentary with Peter Billingsley (Ralphie) and they give the answer, although it is not a specific year they refer to.

Swede is played by the director. A major award you say, it looks like a lamp.
ALso the guy that tells Ralphie he is cutting in line for Santa is Jean Shepherd, himself!

Behind the 8 ball,..
I live but a short drive away.

But I never realized just exactly where it is. I think I'll visit this holiday season.
I have got to get me one of those leg lamps! Maybe even a pair of legs,...lol

I finally showed this movie to my youngest son.
One thing I never noticed is that the Little Orphan Annie anouncer says to set the decoder to B-2. The translated letter in the message is B, hence the first number given should be 2 however it is 12.
I now need to see the special edition.

Sincerely,

I can recite this movie ad nauseum. I always thought it to be 1939, because of all the Wizard of Oz stuff.

"Dont bother me. I'm...I'm thinking."
