Interesting you say that. I did a quick search on this - I was running on info given to me by Will at Aero, and he was pretty firm on what they'd done for the film, though he'd not seen the final version - and I notice Eastman are claiming ownership of Redtails as well. Can only imagine that all the main high-end military repro companies were enlisted to a greater or lesser extent.

It's clear that multiple jacket makers worked on the film. Lots of jackets were needed for all of the characters and extras, and as a one man shop at the time Good Wear couldn't provide them all (especially shearlings and cloth jackets -- the B-10s, for instance, are either Eastmans or from Japan or New Zealand). But no one has ever disputed that Good Wear made the principal characters' A-2s as IDed on the GW web site. Also, John Chapman's work stands out pretty clearly if you're familiar with high end A-2 repros and the main Red Tail A-2s all say "Good Wear" in their leather, cut, and details.

I watched an interview with Dennis Quaid a couple of years ago and the topic of the interview was how active he is in General Aviation. At the time of the interview he was flying a Gulfstream that he Co-owned. He pointed out that every time he flew he would wear the jacket that he kept from filming the movie “The Right Stuff”, it even still had Gordon Cooper’s nametag on it.

Yes this was a hard one. On the IMDB the locations are listed as Italy, and Malaga Spain.
As the escapees travel from Italy to Switzerland they actually emerge into El Choro, Andalusia Spain. Appreciation is given to the Italian railways but unusually, not the Spanish.

It is interesting that all these jackets look very "timeworn", and yet the actors will have had no time to wear them before the actual shooting of the movie. So were they treated in some way - or perhaps made of softer hide than a regular new Goodwear jacket?

Whoever made their jackets, you can guarantee the costume department will have treated the jackets in all sorts of ways, most of which would make us wince - I'm thinking sandpaper, for instance - to get that 'lived in' look. You're probably right about the softer hides.

Chances are some of them were also original jackets that had been kicking around and were picked up by the costume department.

Boxing fanatic here. Is that "THE" Joe Louis in a G1? Looking at it again, no I don't think, wrong nose... not flattened enough... sketchy surroundings too. Looks like some Officer's Club, which he wouldn't be allowed in.
