Hi All - hope you dont mind visitors with occasional queries...

Though I've worn hats most of my life - they tend to be fairly conventional these days.

I am going to a fancy dress party soon where the theme is the golden age of the movie musical, the melodies of the Dance Band era, the jazz greats and Broadway Babes. It sounds like a great oppurtunity to put on a double breasted suit and trilby and just pose for the evening however... We are to be dressed as star of stage, screen or firmament and although I love the image - I cannot think of any particular person to go dressed as.

I've already planned how I want to look and will be plagued with people saying 'who are you meant to be?' I know this is the wrong way round but hope you understand :)

Any thoughts or suggestions?

If you wear a fedora, a 40's or 50's shirt and khakis, you can say you're Howard Hughes and after watching the Avaiator, most people will accept it.

Thanks for the suggestions folks - here and the emails.

I also stand corrected as I am of course talking abut a fedora - I had always reffered to it as a 'trilby' and the smaller brimmed hat as a 'porkpie'

cheers
