I was reading Tony's thread re the bash of hats back in the day. The point was made that folks treated their hats in a more utilitarian fashion.

I was thinking, maybe we could rustle up a real old-timer with a good memory and pose to him some of these types of questions. A similar thing was done when one of our people tracked down that Japanese tailor chap and it was a very interesting series of threads (so to speak).

Better do it quick, though. Someone in his 20s in the 1930s would be in his 90s now.
