Do center expandible back seams pleats provide moveability or are they just a visual feature?

it is like cargo pocket on cargo pants or bag, it has a purpose to expand if the lining allow it to. Whether it brings significant effect I'm not sure must be only 1/2 the effect or less of biswing shoulder gusset and looking at old photos they dont retract well over time.

I’m sure it give you a tiny bit more range of movement.
I’m not a big fan of it because I don’t like the looks of it once it stays permanently open.

I can’t believe there are no jokes about the look of the pleat. It’s mostly why I am here. Too bad.

Anyways, IMO it provides some help but not enough to get over how it looks after some time. A bit off topic but not totally, while I’m not a fan of an open AB, the benefits in movement do allow me to get over it.

I feel like it does give a tiny amount of extra movement. When I was heavier I could see my Freewheelers Caboose expanding in that area at times, so I would guess it's doing something. With that said, there are likely much better ways to give more movement.

Do the shoulder gussets work better for mobility?
Also, I saw that Himel uses an “under arm” gusset or sorts on one of his Nippissing jackets ...
