End of the Summer Sportcoat season?

The summer sportcoat - light-coloured as well as lightweight (often only partially lined) adds a nice look during the warmer months (and looks especially good with a straw hat).
But when (in temperate climates) does it start looking strange to be still wearing a light-coloured sportcoat.
I assume it is OK for a while beyond the end of straw hat season, but how long after that? Labor Day? (end of September)

Opinions?

I go by the weather rather than the calendar. If it's in the 80s in October I would have no qualms about wearing a summer weight/color jacket (linen and seersucker aside). As for colors, I have several light colored jackets made from heavy cloth which are worn in the colder months. For me, fabric weight trumps color in regards to seasonal wear.

Hi

You two have it easier in a way. It's not cool enough in Kansas to wear a sport coat from June until the end of September as a minimum. It didn't get below 80 Degrees F here until Mid October I think. I've been wearing a wool sportcoat to work this month and part of last, but it's nearly time to give that up. It was 60 degree F today, but the 25 knot wind made it a lot more chilly.
