Embossed Brim Edge

I've seen ribbon edging & stiched edging and plain edging and a kind that appears to have been folded back on itself. But I've not seen an embossed edge. This seems like an elegant way to enhance the brim without becoming too bulky or calling too much attention to itself. I'm thinking it might run 3/16" in from the edge and maybe 1/8" wide & pressed in to a depth of maybe 1/16". It seems simple and easy enough to do. Probably been done in the past. Anybody seen this or have a comment?

Hey Art,

I admire your work that I've seen here at the lounge. I'm no hatter but if it tweeks your curiosity-

I've seen wheels used in leather work that press a groove into the hide-like a pizza cutter with a blunt edge. For hat making I suppose you need a right steady hand or some kind of registration jig to get the wheel to track consistently.

Also, could you tell me - Are your brim edges finished fairly square or are they bullnosed or eased a bit. If eased a bit, is this a product of "pouncing"?

Your website is very nice- it would be nice to see an on-line catalog of every special hat that you make along the way.

Thanks. m

They are eased and yes, I hand ease them during pouncing.

Thanks for the kind words on the site. I have recently struck a deal with someone that knows what they are doing to build the site with alot more style than I can provide. In seeing some of his ideas, I'm p**ing my pants in anticipation.:)
