Turned out to be about the fraud squad catching a gang of Romanians selling none existant vehicles through ebay.

To be honest, I couldn't imagine buying a vehicle without seeing it first!

Yes it does still happen, as it did to one of my relatives. Nearly new car, slight showroom wear etc you can even see the reg plate. Pay up, car on it's way, oh there's the admin fee(extra hehe), car 1hr away and there is a crash so it has been taken back to depot, will sort it all next day, (last try coming up) Would you like a more popular colour? That'll be more £££ please. Some hope! cash gone plus the extra.
As they say to good to be true usually is.
Me and the Mrs sussed it as soon as they said they had not seen it and it was on it's way.

I took particular interest with this case, because I had to send back my newly purchased Wayfarer for a zipper issue, and it happened that Aero shipped my jacket back the very day that the theft was reported. I got the tracking number right around the same time as I read the news of the break-in, and was scared that the label had been printed but the package hadn't been shipped, and that my jacket could have been one of those that had been stolen. Fortunately, it wasn't, and I had it back in my hands two days later! (The zipper repair is 100% to my satisfaction, if anyone cares.)

I watch eBay regularly, and a few weeks ago, I had notified Holly that there was an eBay seller in Romania who had listed a large number of Aero jackets, and asked if they matched the description of the stolen goods. I'm clearly not the only one who noticed. She replied back, confirming that they were indeed, and they were already aware and working with authorities, and she asked me to keep quiet about it as it would aid their efforts at recovery, so I said nothing about it to anyone. Since the news is out, I guess it's safe to reveal now (not that I know anything more than that).

I had just followed up w/ her a couple days ago, and she didn't have anything new to report, but according to a post in that VLJ thread from Ken, they were able to recover 40 of the jackets, leaving about 60 still unaccounted for.

Excellent news, overall, I'm sure the rightful owners of the recovered jackets are going to be over the moon to have their jackets back.

For the record, it's the ebay seller adystamps. I don't know if they were the thief (I'd guess likely not), or the fence, and it's too much for me to believe that they could have been an unwitting dupe in all this, but their account is still active, although their Aero listings are gone. It'll be interesting to hear more details when the folks at Aero can put the story out.

I'm shocked (not really) that eBay hasn't suspended adystamps for selling stolen goods, so I feel it's important that the identity be published so that at least we can avoid them.

Seriously, how is it possible that a seller is caught with 40 stolen jackets, total worth around 40k usd, and instead of getting incarcerated, he can still keep on selling things on ebay?

Wasn't the seller based out of Transylvania? That's bloody odd just there, Count Dracula maybe ;-)

Dumb and dumber seller!
He was advertising these jacket during several weeks.
Guess he even sold a few ( with or without Ebay).
Hope the Romanian police gives him what he deserves.
