Got this bad boy last night. Most I’ve ever spent on one hat. My last highest number was $140.
And when it gets here it won’t even fit me!
I got it for my nephew who suffers from a case of the big head.
Hope he likes it. If not I’ll shape it up, clean off the red marks and be selling it soon.
Can’t wait to at least hold this one.
Sure wish it was a 1/4!

Wow! A couple of those photos show just how magnificent that felt is. I bet it will clean up nicely too. You got it at a fair price as the larger sizes don’t sell cheap. I hope your nephew appreciates that hat, but if it doesn’t work out I’m sure you won’t have much trouble finding it a new home.

I sort of feel the seller is wrong about the date. He said "early 50s or even earlier." I think it is more likely no earlier than mid 50s and maybe even early 60s. But it sure looks like a nice one and I don't think that price is bad.

Nice get! I have a store labeled homburg from Brodt's. I posted a few pictures of the store and some old ads in the Vintage Hat Store thread a while back.

Thanks, guys. Yeah, it’s a nice gift, but this nephew has some seriously good uncles. Hard market to compete in for best uncle of the year.
He’s a blessed young, married man and father of two sons and will definitely appreciate everything about the hat. He’s the one I did a western /fedora conversion that sported my first attempt at a campaign bow.
Prior to that He had purchased a modern Strat that he cherishes. But I have no doubt this one will become his favorite.
I figured this one to be a mid to late fifties hat, but according to the liner tip and 15 dollar price, I suppose it could be an early sixties. If it is, and judging from the photos, it looks a lot nicer than any that Stetson was making in the early sixties, imho.
I agree with Brent. The felt looks fantastic. I’ll let you all know how it stacks up when I can handle the hand.

Here’s a sweet, mostly greyish, kinda taupe-ish, ever so slightly greenish hat I got in the mail two days ago.
2 3/4 Cavanagh edge brim! 4 11/16 crown at front crease. Felt is the best I’ve ever seen and...felt. It was also the most stubborn when it came to steam shaping. This Cavanagh did NOT want to become a snap brim with pinches. Nevertheless, I wanted it just as you see it now, and I won.
It’s hard to find a wide brim Cav, but I finally found this on a BIN for seventy including shipping. For me, this fedora has the best shape and proportions of any of my latest gets and that’s saying plenty, as lately I’ve gotten some real beauties.
I’m torn between sewing on a new different color 2” ribbon with a nice set of dog eared gills, or keeping the original bow which has the favorable frayed bow. I’ll keep it as is for a long, long while and make up my mind later. Probably just leave it be.

Man, that was some sort of deal! I have one wide brim Cavanagh and that’s probably all I’ll ever find.

I agree with leaving it original, but then I do love gills.

Thanks Panos. Ohhh.. That’s a good question Hard to tell from the seller pics... looks darker in some and lighter in others. Will be nice if it is on the lighter side as I dont have much in those shades. Looking forward to its arrival.

Barrar, McCray, and Trick was the store's name. I hope there will be info of the maker under the sweatband. Looks like an overwelt on my screen, but I hope it's a felted edge.beaver Twenty, the sweatband says.
