I hope this is pre-1960...
I looked for info for this brand, but could only find a matchbook cover on eBay, which I also bought.
Barrar, McCray, and Trick was the store's name. I hope there will be info of the maker under the sweatband. Looks like an overwelt on my screen, but I hope it's a felted edge.beaver Twenty, the sweatband says.
Does anyone know about it? View attachment 214419 View attachment 214419 View attachment 214419 View attachment 214422 View attachment 214423 View attachment 214424 View attachment 214425 View attachment 214426 View attachment 214427

I've never heard of that retailer before.

Edit/Update: Barrar, McCray, & Trick reference found in 1958 program for the Fourth Annual Career day at University of Dayton.

Also a reference in a 1965 Life Magazine ad for Vycron Polyester slacks (oh, boy!).

14 North Ludlow St. was radically remodeled in the late '70s/early '80s as part of a city rehabilitation project. Several buildings were torn down to make room for what is now Courthouse Square, a community gathering spot. Prior to that, the block was home to the Old Courthouse (the one on the left, still there), the replacement courthouse (that behemoth next to it), and at least a couple of other buildings. Ludlow Street runs behind these buildings. Fourteen N. Ludlow would likely be in that ornate structure behind the Old Courthouse. I'll need to do more digging to find something that may contain more info.

OK, that's the Montgomery County Jail immediately behind the Old Courthouse. It's curious that this is where 14 N Ludlow would be for a retailer, as that building sat there from 1877-1965, from what I understand. In fact, it was my impression that this entire city block was government buildings.

Maybe Barrar, McCray, and Trick provided that new suit of clothes when you were released from the hoosegow, LOL.

I really need to go to the main branch of the library and look at city directories. If Mom was alive, I could just ask her. She knew all this stuff off the top of her head.

Love when a title like “Tan Wool Hat” let a beauty like this slip through the cracks.

Adam Premier Quality. One little mark on the felt. Other than that looks in real nice shape. I’m thinking late sixties on this one.

Nice catch, Joe. I was watching that one and was wondering what it would go for. I wasn't tempted to bid; I have the Adam department covered.

Did you scoop this one up? Was looking at that, but got the black Stetson 100 instead, from the same seller. I think we pulled the trigger at the same time, lol

This fuzzy brown Cavanagh was floating around in the bay for $9.95 opening bid shipping included... decided to bring it on home before it floated off into the Abyss.

A few moth nips here and there especially on the underside of the brim.. the fuzzy ones seem to be like candy to moths.

Can't beat that. The color looks very rich and full of life.

I saw this POS when the seller first listed it days ago with a low opening bid and the bidding remained low and slow. I saw the barely readable ‘Whippet’ on the sweat in the first listing and figured it would pick up some. I had no dog in the hunt. Sold the two I’ve owned and would never buy another unless it was a lucky find. Then it disappeared, then reappeared with an opening bid of $99 and now revised to this. Sounds like another example of the Hat POlice educating sellers, again.
