After viewing the thread with the similar name so many times which seems so weighted towards buyers here that deal on ebay, I thought it high time to start a thread geared primarily toward those of us who might be sellers on said website.
I have over 400 ratings on ebay at present. Mostly as a seller, and all positive. But today I received a childish threat from a potentially unhappy buyer.
( Sniff,... )
A pointed message all in CAPS, and complete with numerous typos, demanding that I refund half of the so-called "over priced" price for the item this person bought from me, about a full month after they made the initial purchase. Needless to say, I immediately referred the offensive and doltish threat of blackmail to the proper authorities, and I am awaiting a reply.
If you (whoever you are,..IF you are a also member of this forum) disliked the item so much in spite of the fact that EVERYONE else who has purchased it over the last 6 months is quite pleased, then why didn't you at least have the decency to POLITELY inform me of your dissatisfaction? Instead of making childish threats of negative feedback in a petulant frenzy ???
I would have replied with congeniality.
I am embarrassed for you, whoever you are,..honestly I am. However I REFUSE to be a victim of childish threats of blackmail.
I have had several instances myself in which I was tempted to leave negative or neutral feedbacks for sellers, BUT I refrained out of simple compassion from the knowledge of the time, work, and effort that goes into being a seller on ebay. Also the fact that it simply does no good whatsoever to tarnish another's reputation, or to threaten to do so.
There is a lot of work, time, and expense involved in listing the items we all covet. Ebay's cut is ever increasing, (12% average, as of this writing),as is Paypal's,... and shipping costs are sky rocketing, all of which are completely out of our control. Those of you who wish to complain about the bad deals you've got there, might do well to consider just what it entails to be a seller. Those who wish to gloat over the great bargains you literally got at another's expense,..would do well to consider what it would be like to be on the other end of that deal. Sellers who lose money or at best barely break even are highly unlikely to continue in their efforts to procure interesting vintage items such as hats to sell to you.
So in relating this sad story, I hereby hope to give a voice to those of us who are primarily sellers on ebay. A thread wherein you can voice your victories, foibles, concerns, complaints, praises, expenses, defenses, and etc. concerning "our favorite auction site".
Let the seller beware,..
